The summer holidays are fast approaching and its too hot in Kolkata. There's no way we can spend our summer holidays rotting in the sticky heat of the delta. Like thousands of Indians, I too have the common notion of visiting the mountains in summer vacation. But unlike the general mass, my summer gateaway has to be some nice hilly place neither too crowded nor deserted.Somewhere i can get time and space to reflect on my thoughts away from the city traffic and also have some fun and watch people around me. The first hillstation that comes to my mind fitting all the above criteria is Dalhousie.
Nestled on the western edge of the Dhauladhar range, Dalhousie , a beautiful hillstation in Himachal Pradesh, was established in 1854 as a summer retreat for the troops and bureaucrats of the then British viceroy in India , Lord Dalhousie.Approximately 15 hours away from Delhi, Dalhousie is a perfect gateaway for summer holidays . The lofty pine trees, the winding roads , friendly people , the perfect view of the snowy peaks all adds to the aura of this small victorian town. For foodies like me, this place is highly recommended for its delicious kebab house offering some of the most original kebab recipes.
